Team work and empathy
Thanks to the generosity of other charities and the public, as well as the firm backing of the Royal Family, the association has gone from strength to strength. Maintaining its original aims, we have continued to adapt to meet the changing needs of the serving wounded and veterans with disabilities. Our gallery below displays the various activities we conduct.
Annual General Meeting 2022
Our 2022 Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday, 5 May in The Somme Nursing Home, Belfast. This well attended meeting was formally opened by Major Peter Baillie BEM, Deputy Chair of The Somme Nursing Home Board of Directors, who gave an address of welcome.
The Primary Speaker was Danny Kinahan Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner. Other speakers included our President, The Duke of Abercorn KG and the National Chairman of The Not Forgotten, David Cowley OBE.
The President later presented his Presidential Certificates for outstanding service to Major Alan Hailes, Major David Keith and Major Bobby Morrow. A farewell gift of an inscribed vase was also presented to Alan Hailes, who is retiring as a volunteer after nearly 30 years dedicated service to the Association.
Gifts were also presented by David Cowley on behalf of the main charity and Ben Higgins BEM, Vice-Chairman on behalf of the Northern Ireland Trustees and volunteers to the retiring Chairman, John Davies MBE, who is stepping down after 8 years at the helm.
After a number of generous donations were received from both military charities and individuals, the incoming Chairman, Lieutenant Colonel John Mateer MBE MBA, then took the chair to formally close the meeting and to announce that John Davies has been made an Association Vice-President, to the applause of all present.
All those in attendance then enjoyed tea, coffee and lovely cakes and biscuits provided by The Somme Nursing Home Catering Staff.

Annual Christmas Lunch 2021
We were honoured to host our first Annual Christmas Lunch since 2019 due to the pandemic causing our 2020 event to be cancelled. This year the event was held in the Europa Hotel, Belfast, which proved to be a very welcoming and central venue. Everyone who attended enjoyed the lunch and we have received numerous telephone calls, letters and emails to congratulate our organising team on a job well done. Due to social distancing rules we were unable to cater for our normal seating plan of around 100 and this was reduced to 60 veterans and carers. The attached photographs show it all!
